Anja Rommel

Anja Rommel studied at the University of Leipzig and graduated in Chinese Studies in 2014. While writing the master thesis about »The Chinese Reception of Adornos Aesthetic Category of the Ugly«, her research interest in non-European approaches deepened. Thanks to a scholarship, she had the opportunity to work and teach at the Institute of East Asian Studies at the University of Cologne from 2017-2018. Rooting in her own martial arts practice, her PhD-project centers »the concept of force within Wing Tsun-Kungfu by Grandmaster 梁挺 Leung Ting (born in 1947)« and discusses its aesthetic strategies, enabling alternative ways of »knowing« in the sense of Empfind-samkeit > Empfind-lichkeit.
