Ich habe meinen Bachelor in Allgemeiner und Vergleichender Literaturwissenschaft an der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main absolviert. Mein Nebenfach war Romanistik mit dem Schwerpunkt spanische und lateinamerikanische Literatur. 2022 habe ich meinen Bachelor dann mit einer Arbeit über narratologische Darstellungsformen von Bewusstsein bei Virginia Woolf und A. L. Kennedy abgeschlossen. Im Anschluss habe ich einen Master in German and Comparative Literature (MA/MLitt 2024) absolviert. Durch das binationale Masterprogramm der Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, hatte ich das Glück nicht nur in Bonn, sondern, durch den DAAD gefördert, auch an der University of St Andrews studieren zu können. Dort habe ich in meiner Masterarbeit das Potenzial von Transkulturation im Kontext des globalgothic anhand eines Vergleichs von englischsprachigen Gothic-Texten mit zeitgenössischen lateinamerikanischen Gothic-Texten untersucht.

In meiner Forschung am Graduiertenkolleg beschäftige ich mich weiterhin mit zeitgenössischer lateinamerikanischer Literatur, die das Konzept der Monstrosität einsetzt, um auf soziale, technologische und ökologische Missstände aufmerksam zu machen. Der Arbeitstitel meiner Dissertation lautet „Monstrosität und (Un)Übersetzbarkeit im Zeitalter der Globalisierung.“ In diesem Projekt untersuche ich die Konstruktion und Funktion von Monstrosität in den lateinamerikanischen Originaltexten auf Spanisch sowie in deren Übersetzungen ins Englische und Deutsche und vergleiche sie. Dieser Vergleich soll schließlich darüber Auskunft liefern, ob Monstrosität als flexible Konstellation von Bedeutungen Gewalt über Kulturen hinweg vermitteln kann, indem sie das Unübersetzbare handhabbar macht. Unübersetzbarkeit wird hierbei nicht als endgültiges Hindernis von Kommunikation theoretisiert, sondern als produktive Spannung, die kulturelle Spezifität anzeigt. Methodisch fließen in der Arbeit literaturwissenschaftliche und übersetzungswissenschaftliche Ansätze zusammen.

I completed my bachelor’s degree in General and Comparative Literature at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and I minored in Romance languages and literature with a focus on Spanish and Latin American literature. In 2022, I completed my bachelor’s degree with a thesis on narratological representations of consciousness in texts by Virginia Woolf and A. L. Kennedy. I then completed a Master's in German and Comparative Literature (MA/MLitt 2024). Thanks to the binational master’s programme at the Rheinische Friedrich Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, I was lucky enough to be able to study not only in Bonn, but also at the University of St Andrews, funded by the DAAD. In my master's thesis there, I analysed the potential of transculturation in the context of the globalgothic by comparing contemporary Latin American gothic texts with English-language gothic texts.

In my research at the RTG, I continue to focus on contemporary Latin American literature that uses the concept of monstrosity to draw attention to social, technological and ecological grievances. The working title of my dissertation is “Monstrosity and (Un)Translatability in the Age of Globalisation”. In this project, I am analysing and comparing the construction and function of monstrosity in the original Latin American texts in Spanish and in their translations into English and German. This comparison will shed light on whether monstrosity, as a flexible constellation of meanings, can convey violence across cultures by embodying the untranslatable. Here, untranslatability is not theorised as a definitive obstacle to communication, but as a productive tension that indicates cultural specificity. Methodologically, the project combines approaches from literary studies and translation studies.
